The folk tale of Santa Clause and a species of mushroom specifically found in the northern territories of Scandinavia named the "Amanita Muscaria" share many similarities from the red and white aesthetics of its cap to the effects on the indigenous peoples and their reindeer.
I was Hired to create the opening scene and a few other animation sequences throughout the animation. Since the Mushroom species is the hero of the film we decided there’s no better way to respect its Beauty and History by created a time lapse animation sequence showing the inception from the spore to a full grown fungi. I created the animation through cells using the Cintiq. Beyond the full growth sequence of the Mushroom and the ripping of the fungi’s cap and stretching of its stem, I added some movement lines shooting out from the stem to accentuate the growth which I think complements the sequence and makes it splendid viewing experience.
In addition to the Mushroom growth sequence, I created a shaman morphing out of a mushroom, almost like shedding mushroom skin and a snowman melting into another dimension.
